Elkhafif, Coordinator Assistance to the Palestinian People at Unctad presented a report during a press conference at the Palais des Nations The report says that while 9.9% economic growth was achieved in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) in 2011, the figure is misleading, and long-term prospects for the OPT economy in fact have grown worse. It contends that most of the economic growth was related to reconstruction in the blockaded Gaza Strip following the Israeli military operation there from December 2008 to January 2009.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationaldiplomat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/palestine2-428d1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1427\" alt=\"UNCTAD REPORT ON ASSISTANCE TO THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE 2012\" src=\"http:\/\/www.internationaldiplomat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/palestine2-428d1.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a>The report says numerous causes for concern \u2013 fiscal-austerity measures, food insecurity, climbing poverty, drops in agricultural production, continued occupation and closures, and a drop in donor support \u2013 continue to cloud the OPT\u2019s future prospects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Text:UNCTAD Photos: Action Press\/Virot Mr Mahmoud A.T.
