Jean-Michel, hilare, me re\u00e7oit dans son bureau de l&rsquo;information de l&rsquo;UNECE. J&rsquo;ai \u00e9crit un \u00ab\u00a0contre article\u00a0\u00bb, apr\u00e8s avoir lu le sien publi\u00e9 dans le magazine UN Special, dans lequel il se moquait gentiment de mes coll\u00e8gues de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Derri\u00e8re son bureau, il m&rsquo;observe l&rsquo;\u0153il p\u00e9tillant. Sa cravate, ses chaussettes sont multicolores et sa veste de couleur chaude tranchent singuli\u00e8rement avec le \u00ab\u00a0dress code\u00a0\u00bb adopt\u00e9 par ses homologues. Il me propose, de sa voix douce et pos\u00e9e, d\u2019embl\u00e9e d&rsquo;int\u00e9grer le comit\u00e9 de r\u00e9daction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jean-Michel \u00e9tait un peu iconoclaste et impertinent, dans le bon sens du terme. Il travaillait pour une organisation qu&rsquo;il adorait \u00e0 tel point qu&rsquo;il publia en 2006 un \u00ab\u00a0l&rsquo;ONU pour les nuls\u00a0\u00bb cosign\u00e9 par son coll\u00e8gue Yves Berthelot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Son extr\u00eame intelligence permit, entre autres, de donner confiance \u00e0 de nombreux r\u00e9dacteurs qui s&rsquo;ignoraient et d&rsquo;en calmer d&rsquo;autres qui se pensaient journalistes voire \u00e9crivains, mais toujours avec humour et bienveillance. Cet humour, parfois cinglant, transparaissait dans ses \u00e9ditoriaux. Il savait capter la situation du moment en ayant analys\u00e9, de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s fine et document\u00e9e, les travers et la bureaucratie de l&rsquo;organisation. Combien de sourires approbateurs sont apparus sur les visages des lecteurs au fil des ans. R\u00e9dacteur en chef pendant plus de 10 ans , il a su gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa libert\u00e9 d\u2019expression, donner un essor nouveau \u00e0 cette publication avec le virage du num\u00e9rique et servir l&rsquo;organisation. Il a ainsi pu valider un mod\u00e8le r\u00e9ussi de partenariat public priv\u00e9. Charg\u00e9 de l&rsquo;Information \u00e0 l&rsquo;UNECE, son activit\u00e9 d\u00e9bordante et son talent cr\u00e9atif l&rsquo;ont pouss\u00e9 \u00e0 produire, avec ses \u00e9quipes, des livres de recettes (le riz un tour du monde en 300 recettes et la pomme de terre en 200 recettes) ou des bandes dessin\u00e9es destin\u00e9es \u00e0 apprendre l&rsquo;ONU aux enfants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Vous pouvez, certains avec nostalgie, retrouver ses \u00e9ditoriaux dans le livre \u00ab\u00a010 ans d&rsquo;ONU au fil des mois <strong>\u00ab\u00a0(*<\/strong>), d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 Kofi Annan aux titres \u00e9vocateurs de : l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e de l&rsquo;amour ou du microcr\u00e9dit, la forteresse vide, la symphonie path\u00e9tique ou le sexe des anges.<\/span><\/p>\n<table class=\" alignleft\" width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(*)\u00a0\u00bb<em>Merci \u00e0 l&rsquo;Administration des Nations Unies sans qui cet ouvrage n&rsquo;aurait jamais vu le jour. En effet, avec son obstination \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des r\u00e8gles et des proc\u00e9dures bureaucratiques, elle m&rsquo;a fourni chaque mois, avec une constance incroyable, mati\u00e8re \u00e0 \u00e9crire cette centaine d&rsquo;\u00e9ditoriaux.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">D\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de sa retraite, Jean-Michel avait entam\u00e9 avec succ\u00e8s, une carri\u00e8re d&rsquo;hypno th\u00e9rapeute et publi\u00e9 de nombreux ouvrages en la mati\u00e8re. Avec son fils Emmanuel, ils avaient\u00a0derni\u00e8rement co\u00e9crit un livre sur l\u2019intelligence artificielle (L\u2019intelligence\u00a0artificielle, une r\u00e9volution ?)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A l&rsquo;heure du politiquement correct \u00e0 outrance, o\u00f9 il est recommand\u00e9 de rester dans les clous sous peine de nuire \u00e0 son profil de carri\u00e8re, Jean-Michel avait compris mieux que quiconque, que le plaisir d\u2019\u00e9crire, appuy\u00e9 sur la conviction et la bienveillance, n&rsquo;ont pas de prix.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Toute l\u2019\u00e9quipe du comit\u00e9 de r\u00e9daction, ses coll\u00e8gues, ses amis sont tristes de voir partir une figure qui a marqu\u00e9 de son empreinte notre quotidien.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5981 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/internationaldiplomat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Jackowish.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"260\" \/><strong>Obituary : Jean Michel Jakobowicz<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Whatever you do, have fun!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Christian David,(with the help of Evelina Rioukhina) UNOG<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">English version by Sarah Jordan UNOG<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A tall figure topped by a curly mop of hair. Jean-Michel, in high spirits welcomes me to his information office at UNECE. I had written a \u00ab\u00a0counter-article\u00a0\u00bb after reading his article published in the UN Special magazine, in which he gently mocked my security colleagues. Behind his desk, he looks at me with a twinkle in his eye. His multi-coloured tie and socks and warm-coloured jacket are in stark contrast to the dress code adopted by his counterparts. In his soft, calm voice, he immediately asks me to join the editorial board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jean-Michel was a bit of an iconoclast and impertinent, in a good way. He worked for an organization of which he was so fond that in 2006 he published the \u00ab\u00a0UN for Dummies\u00a0\u00bb, co-authored by his colleague Yves Berthelot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His extreme intelligence enabled him, among other things, to give confidence to many contributors who were unaware of their talents and to calm others who thought they were journalists or even writers, but always with humour and kindness. This humour, sometimes biting, was apparent in his editorials. He knew how to capture a given situation through a fine and documented analysis of the shortcomings and bureaucracy of the organization. How many approving smiles have appeared on the faces of readers over the years? As editor-in-chief for 10 years, he used his freedom of expression to give this publication a new lease of life with the shift to digital, and to serve the organization. He was thus able to validate a successful model of public-private partnership. As UNECE&rsquo;s Information Officer, his boundless energy and creative talent led him to produce, with his teams, recipe books (Rice around the world in 300 recipes and The Potato around the world in 200 recipes), or comic strips to teach children about the United Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n<table class=\" alignleft\" width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>(*) I am particularly indebted to the United Nations Administration, without whom this book would never have seen the light of day. Indeed, with their stubborn determination to crate bureaucratic rules and procedures, they unfailingly inspired me each and every month to write these hundred editorials.<\/em><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You can still (and for some of you it will be with nostalgia) find his editorials in the book \u00ab\u00a010 years of a UN monthly diary<strong>\u00a0\u00bb (*)<\/strong> , dedicated to Kofi Annan, with evocative titles such as the year of love or of microcredit, the empty fortress, the pathetic symphony or the sex of angels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Right from the beginning of his retirement, Jean-Michel started a successful career as a hypnotherapist and published numerous books on the subject. With his son, Emmanuel, they had recently co-written a book on artificial intelligence (L&rsquo;intelligence artificielle, une r\u00e9volution?).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In times of excessive political correctness, when it is recommended to remain within the bounds of the law or risk damaging one&rsquo;s career, Jean-Michel understood better than anyone else that the pleasure of writing, based on conviction and benevolence, is priceless.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The entire editorial board team, his colleagues and friends are sad to see the passing of a figure who has left his mark on our daily lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hommage \u00e0 Jean Michel Jakobowic Illustration \/ portrait \u00a0Diego Oyarzun.
