{"id":7621,"date":"2024-05-14T08:23:05","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T08:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/internationaldiplomat.com\/?p=7621"},"modified":"2024-05-14T08:23:05","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T08:23:05","slug":"repression-of-peaceful-international-solidarity-demonstrations-is-against-human-rights-un-experts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/12h71.com\/?p=7621","title":{"rendered":"Repression of peaceful international solidarity demonstrations is against human rights: UN experts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Repression of peaceful international solidarity demonstrations is against human rights: UN experts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">GENEVA (14 May 2024) \u2013\u00a0With the proliferation of war and violent conflicts around the world, students and young people are at the forefront of calling for change, UN independent experts* said in a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/issues\/solidarity\/statements\/20240509-Statement-Bailliet-International-Soldiarity-Peace.pdf\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/issues\/solidarity\/statements\/20240509-Statement-Bailliet-International-Soldiarity-Peace.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1715760982467000&amp;usg=AOvVaw05oJFKjj5TEz7Ze7a98zb9\">statement<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cPeaceful protests against the current war on Gaza are a prime example of how young people have come together in international solidarity to protest against the flagrant disregard for human rights and to call for peace,\u201d they said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cToday\u2019s youth demand recognition of their call to state and non-state actors to take responsibility for their actions and pursue peace and human rights (including women\u2019s rights and the right to a clean, healthy environment).\u00a0Through their activism, young people are demanding change and solutions,\u201d the experts said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They noted that by raising awareness about important issues in their societies and providing a platform for young people to share their political demands, youth international solidarity demonstrations can help build public support for change.
